Course Synopsis

This course equips participants with foundational knowledge and practical skills to safeguard organisational systems, networks, and digital assets against cybersecurity threats. It introduces core information security principles, including the Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability (CIA) triad, security controls, and cybersecurity roles, enabling participants to understand how security is integrated into IT environments.

Participants will analyse threat actors, attack vectors, and social engineering techniques, and apply mitigation strategies using cryptographic solutions such as encryption, hashing, and public key infrastructure (PKI). The module also develops competencies in identity and access management (IAM), secure network architecture, and remote access technologies.

Participants will further explore cloud security, Zero Trust concepts, and system resilience practices, including asset protection and physical security.

Aligned with the CompTIA Security+ syllabus, this course prepares participants for advanced training in Cybersecurity and Ethical Hacking, as well as the CompTIA Security+ certification examination.

Prerequisites

Language

Attained at least WPLN level 5; or
Obtained Grade C6 for GCE O-Level English; or
Other equivalent qualifications.

Academic

Obtained at least a pass or C6 at GCE O-Level in at least 3 subjects; or
Candidates with other qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis; or
Mature candidates aged ≥ 30 years old with 8 years of relevant working experience.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

Explain information security concepts, security control types, and key security roles and responsibilities.
Analyse threat actor types, including their attributes and motivations, as well as common threat vectors and attack surfaces.
Apply appropriate cryptographic solutions for encryption and key exchange using cryptographic algorithms, public key infrastructure, and digital certificates.
Apply authentication, account policy, authorization, and identity solutions, including password-based and multifactor authentication, single sign-on, and federated identity.
Apply security principles and controls to secure on-premises network architectures and ensure secure communications for remote access and tunneling.
Apply security principles to cloud infrastructure, embedded systems, and Zero Trust architecture.
Apply asset management practices and physical security controls to protect organisational resources.
